State System & Institutional Governance
UF is governed by a broadly empowered 13-member Board of Trustees. The university is part of the State University System of Florida, which is overseen by the Florida Board of Governors, a constitutional body, and comprises 12 universities of varying sizes and missions. U.S. News & World Report has named Florida the No. 1 state for higher education for the past eight years.
The State University System presidential search process is prescribed by the Florida Board of Governors.
The university is committed to shared governance, with faculty members represented through a 150-member Faculty Senate and each college having a college council. The President of the Faculty Senate serves as a member of the UF Board of Trustees.

The University of Florida is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
