Leading AI Education, Research & Development
The University of Florida has made artificial intelligence a key focus of its long-term plan to integrate top-tier AI research and education throughout its curriculum. This effort aims to give every student essential AI skills, ensuring they are prepared for success in an AI-driven economy, regardless of their major.
Supported by funding from the State of Florida, UF created 100 new AI faculty positions across its 16 colleges. Additionally, UF established the Artificial Intelligence Academic Initiative Center (AI Squared), which facilitates the development of new AI courses and programs that now includes over 200 AI courses, enrolling more than 12,000 students annually. The AI Squared Center created the AI Learning Academy to train faculty and K-12 teachers across Florida in AI basics, ethics, and teaching methods. Faculty and teachers who complete this program will develop AI courses in various subjects statewide, boosting Florida’s economic growth.
In a public-private partnership with NVIDIA, UF is home to HiPerGator, one of the fastest supercomputers in higher education. UF’s AI initiatives earned the 2024 Future Campus Award from the Tambellini Group, affirming its status as an AI education, research, and training leader. This program positions Florida to stay competitive in the growing AI economy.
